La Patrone
Forged steel and
painted. The rooster is an important symbol and also home to Tampa
brought here by Cubans and Spanish people. He is embracing the life
of Tampa and his culture. He is a big character within the city
life. This sculpture was created for the ArtLoud Competition 2011

Climbing in Balance
The sculpture is based on the rebuilding of our economy. It
shows a big mass of steel, climbing in balance, like the rough edges
we have in life, and still finding the beauty in everyday life. It
shows us, as Americans, rising above and working our way around the
obstacles to stand-up for our rights. I wanted the shape of the
sculpture, to be rough and as simple as possible, but also to feel
the collaborative power of strength and movement. The rough metal,
without much shape or figure, still has elegance in its lines, that
tell the story and shows beauty, in the complete expression of the
sculpture.

event in Tampa, a project to beautify Downtown Tampa with art and
sculptures. Marc De Waele won the Red Ribbon Award for the "Climbing in Balance"
